LLMS01 LoRaWAN IoT Leaf Moisture Sensor

New customers will enjoy 60-Day's FREE access on Telemetry2Us' IoT Platform. Read more here...

The Dragino LLMS01 is a LoRaWAN leaf moisture and temperature sensor and when used with Telemetry2U, quickly enables a level of smart farming through the Internet of Things (IoT). Leaf Moisture can be important for controlling anything from fungus and diseases to irrigation systems. With T2U, you can be alerted if your leaf's require watering/moisturizing or when there is a dew or they are frozen, helping you optimize growth and general farm management.

Telemetry2U has a live demo of a Dragino LLMS01 Leaf Moisture Sensor running on our IoT Platform.

The LLMS01 is a long range LoRaWAN node that provides spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimising power consumption. Its IP66 waterproof design makes it suitable for outdoor use. Its powered by a 8500mA Li/SOCl2 non-rechargeable battery and due to its low power consumption, users can expect years of operation with a moderate logging rate. The LoRa technology used for transmission allows you to send you pH data extremely long distances, and this is boosted further with the external antenna.  Ranges for of more than 10km line-of-sight are not uncommon.

The LLMS01 probe is designed in a leaf shape to best simulate real leaf characteristics and consists of 15 leaf veins per centimetre, meaning it can sense smaller drops with more accuracy.  It detects the leaf's moisture and temperature using the FDR method (Frequency Domain Sensors), where the leaf is used as a capacitor to measure the maximum resonant frequency in the electrical circuit, and that relates to the moisture content.

The operating parameters and many other settings on the LLMS01 can be modified via AT commands on the serial port interface through a terminal program like RealTerm, but an FT232RL USB-TTL converter is required for this task (not supplied).  The communications port can also be used to upload new firmware via the built-in bootloader.  When purchased with a T2U node licence, there is generally no need to worry about the technical stuff, as your device comes preconfigured for the Telemetry2U servers and loaded with the latest firmware, ready to go.  Once its connected, you'll be able to send commands and change the settings on your device from the T2U interface, so there is no need to connect to via the serial port.
